More than a menu

A calm, shared part of the day

Children and educators sit together, talk, and enjoy the rhythm of a shared meal. Younger children hear adults describe what is happening, while older children exchange stories and ideas with the group.

Ofsted observed children using tongs, pouring drinks, and developing confidence with cutlery. These practical steps build coordination and independence while keeping the atmosphere warm and unhurried.

Growing well

Variety, familiarity, and positive food experiences

Menus should introduce variety without turning food into a battle. The team plans familiar and nutritious options, notices what children enjoy, and supports new tastes with patience.

Food also connects with the curriculum. Growing a seed, naming ingredients, counting portions, talking about teeth, and exploring colour or texture can all make healthy choices meaningful.

  • Age-appropriate meals and snacks
  • Water available through the day
  • No pressure to clear a plate
  • Regular communication about appetite and preferences

Dietary care

Allergies and individual needs begin with a conversation

Before a child starts, families should share allergies, intolerances, cultural requirements, medical guidance, and eating support needs in full. The nursery team can then explain the current menu and the controls used in practice.

Because menus and individual arrangements can change, ask to see the latest menu during your tour and discuss any dietary requirement directly with the manager before accepting a place.

A carefully prepared nursery activity encouraging conversation and choice

Mealtimes are social events where children and staff eat together and conversation hums around the table.

Questions families ask

Useful answers before you visit

Every child and attendance plan is different. Bring the details that matter to you, and we will give you a clear answer.

Ask the nursery team
Are meals prepared at the nursery?

The nursery's current information describes fresh meals prepared by an on-site chef. Ask for the latest menu and current inclusions when discussing fees.

Can you support allergies or special diets?

Dietary needs must be discussed before a place starts. The team will explain what can be safely provided and the information or medical plan required.

How do mealtimes support independence?

Children are encouraged at an appropriate level to serve food, pour drinks, use cutlery, make choices, and take part in tidying routines.
